There is so much for families to do during a visit to Buckingham Palace’s State Rooms. See if you can find Queen Victoria's throne in the Throne Room or if you spot the hidden door in the White Drawing Room! See our highlights page for families to discover more.
To help plan your visit make sure you read our practical information - including important information about pushchairs, baby changing facilities, and food & drink. Try the free family multimedia tour
During the Summer Opening of Buckingham Palace you can explore the Palace with our multimedia tour designed for families with children. The multimedia guide is narrated by Alice the footman and Rex the corgi, and takes visitors on an engaging tour of the State Rooms. There are interviews with Royal Collection Trust curators and Royal Household staff, as well as games and puzzles to solve.
And if you’re getting a lot of “what’s that” or “why” questions to answer from the little ones, just ask our friendly wardens - they love to chat with people and share their knowledge all about Buckingham Palace.
Visit the Family Pavilion
During the Summer Opening of the Palace don’t miss the Family Pavilion in the Palace Garden. This area especially for under-12s offers a range of games and activities.
For our younger visitors our under 5s area is filled with toys.
You can also dress-up and take a photograph together standing in front of a painting of Queen Victoria’s Garden Party.
The Family Pavilion also features games and more photo opportunities exploring the working life of Buckingham Palace and the events that take place within the calendar year, such as the Garden Parties.
For those who would like a quiet moment after all the excitement of the State Rooms, there are colouring and activity sheets, which can be done in the Pavilion or taken home as a memento.
The Family Pavilion is open daily throughout the Buckingham Palace Summer Opening.
