£1 tickets to The King’s Gallery
For those on Universal Credit and other named benefits.
£1 tickets for admission to The King’s Galleries in London and Edinburgh are available to anyone in receipt of the following:
- Universal Credit
- Working Tax Credit
- Child Tax Credit
- Pension Credit
- Employment and Support Allowance
- Income Support
- Jobseeker’s Allowance
You can claim £1 tickets for up to six people per household. Only one person per household needs to show supporting documents.
Booking your £1 ticket
What's included in the £1 ticket offer?
Your £1 ticket includes standard exhibition admission to The King’s Galleries in London and Edinburgh. Under 5s tickets and access companion tickets are free.
Separate paid-for events such as lectures or creative courses are not included in the £1 ticket offer. For details, please see our What's On pages.
As part of working royal palaces, sometimes The King’s Galleries need to be closed at short notice. Details for these closures are listed with our opening times for each Gallery:

Can I book £1 tickets for any exhibition?
£1 tickets are available for the three exhibitions opening in 2024 at The King’s Galleries in London and Edinburgh:
- Style & Society: Dressing the Georgians
- Royal Portraits: A Century of Photography (17 May-8 July only)
- Drawing the Italian Renaissance
How do I book £1 tickets?
You can reserve and pay for up to six tickets via our website.
Tickets must be booked in advance to guarantee entry and avoid disappointment. Visitor numbers are limited and some dates and timeslots can sell out in advance.
If you can't find £1 tickets for the date you wish to book, this date is sold out but further dates are available.
Can I book £1 tickets for more than one exhibition?
Yes, anyone eligible can book up to six tickets per household per visit.
If you would like to visit more than one exhibition, you will need to book separate £1 tickets for each visit, and bring your supporting documents with you each time.
Can I purchase £1 tickets on the day?
Yes, but subject to availability. To guarantee entry and avoid disappointment we recommend you book in advance. Visitor numbers are limited and some dates and timeslots can sell out in advance.
Can £1 tickets be booked for any date the Galleries are open?
Yes, with the exception at The King’s Gallery, London £1 tickets cannot be booked 11 July to 6 October 2024 inclusive.
Can the £1 ticket be used over more than one day?
No, each ticket is only valid for a single day.
Do access companions still go free if I book a £1 ticket?
Yes, access companion tickets are still free if you have booked £1 tickets.
Can I change my £1 ticket?
Regrettably, £1 tickets are non-refundable and we are unable to make any changes to your booking.
Can I convert my £1 ticket into a 1-Year Pass?
No, £1 tickets cannot be converted into a 1-Year Pass.
Can a £1 ticket be used to visit the royal residences?
The offer is only available at The King’s Galleries and cannot be applied to tickets for the Royal Residences or the Royal Mews at this time.
If you would like to visit the royal residences or the Royal Mews, you will need to make a separate booking as it is not possible to add these tickets to your basket when booking a £1 ticket.
Are £1 tickets eligible for Gift Aid?
No, £1 tickets are not eligible for Gift Aid.

What supporting documents do I need to bring with me?
- One form of supporting document to show eligibility for this offer:
- Universal Credit - show your Universal Credit statement, either on your mobile app or a paper copy
- Pension Credit - DWP letter of confirmation
- Working Tax Credit - HMRC letter confirming Working Tax Credit
- Child Tax Credit - HMRC letter confirming Child Tax Credit
- Employment and Support Allowance - DWP letter of confirmation
- Income Support - DWP letter of confirmation
- Jobseekers Allowance - DWP letter of confirmation
- Additional identification to confirm the name on the supporting documents. This does not need to be a photo ID; a bank card, bank statement, utility bill or work ID is fine.
- Your Print at Home tickets if you chose this option during checkout, or your ticket confirmation email if you are collecting your tickets on the day.
If you don't have proof of receiving benefits, you can request a letter via Gov.uk.
All supporting documents and identification should be recent and up-to-date.
Can I show my supporting documents on my phone?
Yes, but you will also need to show another proof of ID which is not on your phone, to confirm your name. This does not need to be a photo ID, a bank card, bank statement, utility bill or work ID is fine.

Why has the £1 ticket scheme been launched?
We recognise that price can be a barrier and we want to ensure as many people as possible have access to the Royal Collection, which is one of Royal Collection Trust’s key charitable aims.
Are there other discounts available?
The King’s Galleries will continue to offer a range of concessionary rates, while visitors who purchase standard tickets directly from Royal Collection Trust can convert them into a 1-Year Pass, allowing free re-entry for 12 months.
Is this going to be a permanent price offer?
This initiative is going to be trialled throughout 2024 at the three exhibitions at The King’s Galleries in London and Edinburgh:
